HCMA Volunteers Go to Washington, DC

Feb 14, 2024 7:00AM—Feb 15, 2024 2:00PM

Location

Washington, DC

Thank you for your interest in volunteering!

We have an exciting opportunity to speak to Federal Policymakers about issues that impact the HCM community.

On February 14th (Valentine’s Day!), starting at 7AM and throughout the day, we will be attending pre-scheduled meetings with members of Congress, and/or their staff members, on “The Hill” in Washington, DC.  Our goal is to share patient stories and drive home the message of the importance of finding the undiagnosed and the need to break down the barriers to proper treatment. In between meetings, we will be handing out Valentine’s Day candies and printed invitations for members of targeted committees to attend an HCMA hosted legislative briefing & luncheon on February 15th.

On the morning of February 15th, we will start the day at 7 AM with more meetings with members of Congress and/or their staff until 12 Noon where we will convene at the Rayburn House in Washington, DC for our HCMA hosted legislative briefing & luncheon. The primary focus of this briefing is to share the importance of proper screening, treatment and research for HCM and other genetic and congenital cardiac disorders.

We hope that you will join us for either one or both days and share your HCM patient experience during these events.  While the briefing itself has an agenda packed with “formal” speakers, we want you to use these events as an opportunity to share your “heart story” with your legislators “face to face”, conversationally, letting them see the impact of HCM in yours and/or your families lives.

If you have any questions or need additional information, please email Julie Russo at julie@4hcm.org.  Once you have registered, we will reach out to you to provide more details.
