William C. Roberts was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on September 11, 1932. He graduated from Southern Methodist University and Emory University School of Medicine. He did his training in internal medicine at the Boston City Hospital and at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and his training in pathology at the National Institutes of Health. From July 1964 to March 1993, he was Chief of Pathology in the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland. He has published over 1600 articles, authored or edited 30 books, and lectured in over 2,200 cities throughout the world. He has contributed information on many cardiovascular conditions.
Victoria was diagnosed with HCM at 14 years old and lived with symptoms that became progressively worse over time. At 26 years old she had a myectomy followed by an ICD implant. Over the next few years, her symptoms got worse, which is unusual for post-myectomy. At 29 she was listed for a heart transplant. On October 16, 2019 she was admitted to the hospital to receive her heart transplant.
Today she lives in Michigan with her husband and her very unique heart collection of her own.
Lorianne Peachey was diagnosed with HCM at 32 years old. In the course of her disease management she had a pacemaker then an ICD for over 25 years. She had many episodes of arrthymias and ultimately at devlopeed advanced heart failure symptoms in 2017. In June of 2021 she was listed for a transplant. On July 16, 2021 her call came that it was time for a new heart!
Jan Brewer was diagnosed with Hypertrophic Obstructive Cardiomyopathy (HOCM) in her early 40s but she had been experiencing symptoms most of her life. Looking back at old medical records from her early 20s, there were doctors noting that she had hypertrophy and septal irregularity but they never made her aware of her condition. In 2011, Jan received her first ICD. She had a septal myectomy in 2012 and a second myectomy in 2017. In January of 2020, Jan was told she needed a heart transplant. She received the call for transplant on February, 13, 2021 at 7:30 AM.
