Patient Travel Planning

Charlottesville, Virginia is home to the University of Virginia (UVA), the only university UNESCO World Heritage site in North America. Situated 75 miles northwest of Richmond, VA, and 100 miles southwest of our nation’s capital, C’ville, as it is locally known, is in central Virginia, along the Rivanna River. Shenandoah National Park is nearby. Former presidents Thomas Jefferson and James Monroe both lived in Charlottesville while they served as Governor of Virginia, and Jefferson’s famous home in Monticello is just 3 miles from downtown. Named for Queen Charlotte of England, Charlottesville has been home to many other notable names, including the Dave Matthews Band, Edgar Allan Poe, and William Faulkner. Although there are no local professional sports teams, the UVA Cavaliers are a popular part of the local entertainment scene.

Charlottesville has 4 distinct seasons, but the temperatures are moderate. Summers are humid and there is some snowfall in the winter. Don’t forget to check the weather a few days before you visit.
