Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Also known as Philly, the City of Brotherly Love, The Cradle of Liberty, and The Birthplace of America. History looms large in this, the most populous city in its state (and 6th most populous in the country). The First and Second Continental Congress’ convened here, with the latter signing the Declaration of Independence in 1776. The Constitution was later signed at the Philadelphia Convention of 1787. Philadelphia is home to: The Liberty Bell; dozens of educational institutions; the nation’s first library; the MLB’s Phillies, the NFL’s Eagles, the NHL’s Flyers, and the NBA’s 76ers; “The Rocky Steps,” which Rocky Balboa scaled in the original 1976 film, at the Philadelphia Museum of Art; and what are widely recognized as the best cheesesteaks, well, anywhere.
Located in the Delaware Valley, Philadelphia is in the southeast corner of Pennsylvania, immediately to the west of New Jersey, and 30 miles north of Wilmington, Delaware. It is approximately 100 miles southeast of New York City. This area experiences very seasonal weather. The winter months are December through March, with January typically the coldest and snowiest. Spring brings a thaw and a chance to see the cherry blossom trees in full bloom. Summers are hot and muggy, especially July. The Fall sees cooler temperatures, alongside OktoberFest, apples, pumpkins, street festivals, and more.
