Along the banks of the East River, in Midtown Manhattan, resides the Kips Bay Neighborhood, home to NYU Langone Medical Center and several other hospitals, colleges, and universities. It lies just south of Murray Hill, north of Gramercy and Union Square, and a short trip to Greenwich Village, the Empire State Building, and Grand Central Station. Kips Bay is close enough to Broadway and Times Square that visitors can get tickets to experience the world-famous performances. But don’t confuse the real Broadway with Broadway Alley in Kips Bay; this private alley was simply a connector to the East River and, famously, the last unpaved street in Manhattan. Chester A. Arthur, the 21st U.S. President, lived at 123 Lexington Avenue throughout his time as President and Vice President. His home was used to host the 1881 presidential inauguration and is the last surviving building in the city to have hosted such an event.

Lodging
There are plenty of lodging options in New York City. We have focused on hotels and short-term rentals within a reasonable walking distance of NYU Langone. The Center of Excellence is located in the Kips Bay neighborhood of Midtown Manhattan, which is easily accessible by public transportation. If you are willing and able to travel by subway, bus, or taxi, you will discover many more options in other parts of Manhattan. Click on the tabs above for our specific recommendations.

The annual average nightly hotel room rate in New York City (excluding taxes) in 2023 is $159 from January-February, $258 from March-June, $220 from July-August, and $286 from September-December.
Many lodging options that do not include a kitchenette do have refrigerators and/or microwaves available to guests. You may need to request them in advance.

To receive the discount, call the reservations number and give them the code "NYUMED." Reclining chairs can be requested. Studio rooms and larger have kitchenettes with microwaves. Regular rooms have mini-fridges. There is no public microwave.

3-star hotel; 0.5 miles from the COE; This hotel was awarded "TripAdvisor Travelers' Choice 2023." Valet Parking is available, but there are no in/out privileges, and you should request your vehicle 45 minutes before you check out. Junior Suites have pull-out couches. Mini-fridges are available upon request. Microwaves are not available. Connecting rooms are not available.

Mondrian New York Park Avenue (212-804-8880)
4-star hotel; 0.5 miles from the COE; There is a COE discount; call the Mondrian, and ask for the “neighbor code” for NYU Langone Medical Center. There are blackout dates, but when available, it is 15% off the rate for that night. Connecting rooms are available and can be guaranteed at the time of reservation. There is a mini fridge in every room. There are no microwaves available in the hotel. A black car service to the airport is available, for an additional fee. There is a loveseat in each premier King room.

4-star hotel; 0.6 miles from the COE; Sofa beds are available in most rooms, and you can request a room with one. All other rooms have a mini-fridge. Microwaves are available to all rooms upon request. There are no in/out privileges for Valet Parking.

3-star hotel; 0.6 miles from the COE; Connecting rooms are available (Standard Queen); requests can be made at the time of reservation but cannot be guaranteed. A small number of mini-fridges are available and can be requested. There is no microwave available to guests. Although there is no self-parking on site, the hotel does have a deal with a garage around the corner. This is a budget-friendly boutique hotel, with a Swedish design.

3-star hotel; 0.7 miles from the COE; This hotel is very simple, providing a bed, a safe, towels, and a shower. Some rooms even have bunk beds! There is no parking on site, but a discount is available at a local garage. See the website for details.
