Children’s Nebraska
Children’s Nebraska Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Program Overview Children’s Nebraska is a freestanding pediatric hospital with more than 17 locations across the region, dedicated exclusively to improving the health and well-being of children. Our mission is to improve the life of every child through exceptional care, advocacy, research, and education. Through our commitment to patient and family centered care, we ensure families are informed, supported, and actively engaged in every step of their child’s treatment journey. At the heart of our organization, the Criss Heart Center is a comprehensive cardiac program recognized as a regional leader in the diagnosis and treatment of congenital and pediatric heart conditions. Through advanced diagnostic technologies, innovative therapies, and coordinated multidisciplinary care, we provide children with the highest standard of cardiovascular care. The Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) Program is a cornerstone of our commitment to caring for children and families affected by this complex condition. Our program offers comprehensive, lifelong care guided by a highly specialized multidisciplinary team that includes pediatric and adult congenital cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, advanced cardiac imaging specialists, cardiac intensivists, cardiac anesthesiologists, and cardiology nurses. Additional expertise from genetics, exercise physiology, behavioral health, social work, nutrition, and pharmacy ensures a holistic approach that addresses the medical, physical, and emotional needs of each patient and family. A defining strength of the Criss Heart Center is our fully integrated continuum of cardiac care. Patients benefit from seamless coordination across inpatient, outpatient, procedural, and long-term follow-up services, supported by specialty and ancillary teams throughout the organization. This collaborative approach allows us to deliver individualized treatment plans while maintaining continuity of care at every stage. All Criss Heart Center physicians hold faculty appointments at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, where they contribute to pioneering research and the education of future healthcare professionals. This academic partnership enhances our ability to offer evidence-based care and participate in advancing the understanding and treatment of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Through close collaboration with adult cardiology and adult hypertrophic cardiomyopathy specialists, we also provide a structured transition program that prepares adolescents and young adults for lifelong cardiac care. This coordinated approach ensures continuity of care, promotes patient independence and self-management, and supports optimal long-term outcomes as patients move from pediatric to adult-focused services. Through innovation, collaboration, research, and compassionate care, Children’s Nebraska is dedicated to improving outcomes, expanding knowledge, and enhancing the lives of children and families affected by hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
