Patient Travel Planning

Grand Rapids is located in Western Michigan, along the banks of the Grand River (which no longer offers the rapids it once did) and just 25 miles from Lake Michigan. Once known as the furniture capital of the world, both for the quality and quantity of the furniture produced, it is currently known as “Beer City USA,” as well as for its small-townsmall town atmosphere with big city features. The city’s most popular tourist attraction is a museum featuring the 38th U.S. President, Gerald R. Ford. Late American billionaire Frederik Meijer, who also made his home in Grand Rapids, left an indelible mark on the city, with many businesses and attractions named in his honor; most notably, a chain of Meijer Supermarkets, and the Frederik Meijer Gardens, the state’s largest tropical conservatory.

The weather in Grand Rapids, MI is seasonal, ranging from cold and snowy winters to hot summers, but the winter typically lasts from October through April, and the Spring and Fall seasons tend to be short. Due to its proximity to the Great Lakes, Grand Rapids is subject to lake effect snow, and average annual snowfall is over 75 inches. Don’t forget to check the weather a few days before you visit.
